The Seanad has heard of the impact of an assault by a student on a local teacher.
Following the incident, which occurred a year ago, the teacher remains in pain and continues to receive surgery.
Labour Senator Nessa Cosgrove raised the matter as part of a debate on the Leave for Injuries Bill.
