Two Roscommon women have made their first donation of dozen sleeping bags, hats and blankets, all made from crisp packets to a Dublin outreach group

Two Roscommon women have made their first donation of dozen sleeping bags, hats and blankets, all made from crisp packets to a Dublin outreach group heling homeless people this week.

The Crisp Packet Project Roscommon was established last November, after a video went viral showing how the empty bags could be transformed into equipment for people living on the streets.

The bags are washed and then fused together with a hot iron before being handed over to homeless groups with 150 bags required to make one insulated sleeping bag.

Karen Burke and Jacqui Gunning are receiving hundreds of crisp packets in the post each week and this week managed to donate what they have made so far to people who attended a soup kitchen at the GPO on Monday night.
