Roscommon Senator Eugene Murphy says clarity is needed on why over 100 jobs are being lost in Ballinasloe.

Senator Murphy says workers at the Aptar plant in the town which makes dispensing pumps for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry were taken by surprise at yesterday's announcement that the company will be winding up its operation in east Galway in September this year.

It's understood they will be moving the work to a site in France instead.

Senator Murphy says the job losses will be felt very seriously in the town and there is still the question as to why the company has decided to pull out of the area after 20 years.
