A Roscommon man found dead at his home in Sligo has been named locally this afternoon.

Garda investigations into the auctioneer's death are continuing this afternoon, with a technical examination into his death ongoing at his home in Cartron Heights in Sligo town.

Gardaí say the results of a post-mortem will determine the course of their investigation - but it’s believed the Fine Gael activist suffered severe injuries.

It's believed he had only recently returned from holidays abroad and was out socialising in a local pub at the weekend.

Prayers have been offered for the dead man at masses today in Sligo and in Roscommon.
