A controversial eviction in Roscommon almost two years ago has been referenced in the Dail as why private security firms need stricter regulation if involved in evictions

The bill was proposed jointly by Sligo-Leitrim TD Martin Kenny, Sinn Féin's justice spokesman and Deputy Donncha Ó Laoghaire.

The bill aims to close a loophole where those executing court-ordered repossessions and evictions do not fall under the scope of any regulating legislation and cannot be investigated by the Private Security Authority.

Several TDs referenced events at a Strokestown farm in December 2018, when a family was evicted on foot of an order from KBC bank.

The company involved was subsequently fined after being found guilty of six breaches of the Private Security Services Act for working without an appropriate licence.
