Roscommon hotelier Tom Grealy described as 'true gentleman' at funeral mass

Fr Ray Milton described him as 'one of a kind' who had hospitality in his DNA.

Roscommon hotelier Tom Grealy was described as a 'true gentleman' who knew how to make people feel seen and valued at his funeral today. The former owner and manager of The Abbey Hotel in Roscommon was laid to rest this afternoon in St Coman's Cemetery. Mr Grealy was an Honorary Member of Golf Ireland and became President of the Golfing Union of Ireland in 1999. He is survived by his wife Anya, and his four children Tom Jnr, Adrian, Maryclaire and Robert. Speaking at his funeral mass today, celebrant Ray Milton described him as 'one of a kind' who had hospitality in his DNA: He said each of his four children carried a piece of their father's legacy with them:

In a moving eulogy, Mr Grealy's son Tom Junior thanked healthcare workers, Drumderrig Nursing Home staff and staff at the Abbey Hotel. Staff accompanied Mr Grealy from his 'beloved hotel' to the Sacred Heart Church this morning. He met his future wife Anya while working in the hotel:
