Roscommon University Hospital's plastic surgery and skin cancer unit has been praised in the Dáil. The consultant-led service, headed by Dr. Deirdre Jones, received 8,000 GP referrals in 2025 and treats around 10% of Ireland's melanoma patients.
The unit has the capacity to treat three times more patients but is limited by inadequate accommodation. Local Fianna Fáil TD Martin Daly says the region deserves improved health services:
