Roscommon County Council is being urged to explore options to increase collections at Bottle Banks which are reaching capacity more frequently.

The local authority issued a call this week for people not to leave bags and boxes of bottles beside the containers if they are full, following incidents of a large number of boxes at its facility in Monksland.

Councillor John Keogh says as well as being illegal to do so, there is the potential hazard of attracting vermin.

He says while he would be hoping the local authority would not have to resort to issuing fines, there is an onus on the public to act responsibly:
