Roscommon Councillors hit out at TII over lack of action at Scramogue Cross
Scramogue cross

Independent councillor Tom Crosby called for immediate and comprehensive safety measures at Scramogue Cross, near Strokestown.

A semi-state body is being accused of waiting for people to die before carrying out vital roadworks in Co Roscommon. It's after Transport Infrastructure Ireland refused to carry out works - due to a lack of crashes. Independent councillor Tom Crosby called for immediate and comprehensive safety measures at Scramogue Cross, near Strokestown.

He says there are inadequate signs and road-markings, and no public lighting. But TII refused, saying it's not a high-collision location. At a meeting of Roscommon County Council yesterday, councillors were furious with the response - including Cllr Crosby himself:

Even south Roscommon councillors condemned the response, including Independent Emer Kelly:

Monksland councillor John Keogh also hit out at TII:

TII does say further improvements are planned at this junction as part of the ongoing N5 upgrade between Ballaghaderreen and Scramogue, scheduled to open at the end of 2027.
