A semi-state body is being accused of waiting for people to die before carrying out vital roadworks in Co Roscommon. It's after Transport Infrastructure Ireland refused to carry out works - due to a lack of crashes. Independent councillor Tom Crosby called for immediate and comprehensive safety measures at Scramogue Cross, near Strokestown.
He says there are inadequate signs and road-markings, and no public lighting. But TII refused, saying it's not a high-collision location. At a meeting of Roscommon County Council yesterday, councillors were furious with the response - including Cllr Crosby himself:

TII does say further improvements are planned at this junction as part of the ongoing N5 upgrade between Ballaghaderreen and Scramogue, scheduled to open at the end of 2027.
