Roscommon Council seek decision on active travel measures along N5 upgrade

An application has been sent to An Bord Pleanala.

Roscommon County Council are seeking a decision on whether additional active travel measures could be included in their existing planning permission for major upgrade of the N5.

The team behind the Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge Road Project have called on the higher planning authority to decide if the granted consent would incorporate localised minor active travel works.

Active Travel measures are designed to encourage and enable walking and cycling with facilities such as cycle routes, greenways and paths.

Roscommon County Council's application to An Bord Pleanála seeks to clarify if minor local works can be completed as part of the granted planning permission to help future developments of an amenity led nature.

The existing permission was granted in 2019 and includes the substantial improvement and realignment of the route between Ballaghaderreen to Scramoge.

The higher planning body will decide on the application in October.
