There were over 600 more drug searches carried out in the Shannonside region last year, compared to 2022. Drug searches dropped 15% for the entire country, but saw an expediential rise of 68.85% in Roscommon-Longford and 23.86% in Sligo-Leitrim.
Figures published by the Minister for Justice show that over 1,200 took place in Roscommon-Longford in 2024, rising from 745 in 2022. While 545 occurred in Sligo-Leitrim, an increase of 2022’s figure of 440. Green Party Cathoairleach, Janet Horner says Gardaí should be focusing on targeting dealers rather than individuals:
