Public urged to get involved in Make Way Day campaign

Long term solutions are needed to ensure that access to public spaces are available to everyone.

There are calls for Community Gardai and local officials in the Shannonside Northern Sound region to work more closely with disability groups to make access to public spaces available to everyone.

Tomorrow is Make Way Day which aims to raise awareness of the obstacles on footpaths and streets faced by people with mobility aids every day.

People are asked to take a picture or video of obstacles within 5 kilometers of where they live and upload it to social media tomorrow using the #MakeWayDay2021.

John Tynan from Athlone Access Awareness says while it's positive for everyone to take part in the campaign, the focus should be on long term solutions.
