Power is currently being restored to the remaining homes and businesses in the Shannonside region following last nights thunderstorms. At lunch time there was almost 500 premises without power in the region however that number has now decreased since. West Roscommon was particularly badly affected, with significant outages in Ballaghaderreen, Lisacul and Carrowbehy whilst Mohill in Co. Leitrim was also one of the worst hit areas.
The ESB is working to restore power to all homes by this evening. Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel says last night's conditions was an exceptional event:
