Parishioners in an area of north Roscommon are reacting with sadness following confirmation that their parish priest is to leave the area after more than a decade of service.
Fr Micheál Donnelly has confirmed his moved from Frenchpark, Ballinagare, Fairymount and Tibohine.
In a statement shared online, Fr Micheál said he is to be transferred to the parish of Ahascragh and Caltra at the request of Bishop Kevin Doran.
The transfer is due to take effect on Tuesday, June 30th.
In the statement, Fr Micheál said it was with sadness that he informed parishioners of the move, having served as Parish Priest in the local pastoral area for nearly eleven years.
During that time, he became a familiar and respected figure within the communities of Frenchpark, Ballinagare, Fairymount and Tibohine, overseeing parish life, religious ceremonies and community events.
He also used the announcement to thank parishioners for what he described as their kindness, support and commitment over the years, saying their help had made the day-to-day running of parish activities much easier.
He acknowledged the efforts of volunteers and local church groups in helping maintain church life and keeping parish activities going across the four communities.
No announcement has yet been made regarding who will succeed him.
