Roscommon County Council has proposed to convert a historic building into a community facility. Submissions are currently open in relation to a major development at Edenville House in Roscommon town. Edenville House, also known as Black's House, is a former military barracks located in Roscommon town. It was built around 1702, though largely redeveloped in the 1750s. The building served as a barracks until 1869 and later became a private residence. The landmark is a protected structure, and it is situated near Roscommon's railway station and town centre.
Roscommon county council is proposing its redevelopment into a multi-purpose community facility for creative, cultural, social, community, educational, and recreational purposes. The works would include the demolition of non-historic structures on the site, as well as refurbishment and conservation works to the existing barracks building. In addition, plans would see the construction of a new vertical circulation core, stabilisation, refurbishment and conservation works to the boundary wall, and external landscaping works. It includes vehicular access to the north of the site and car parking, alongside all other associated site works. An Appropriate and Environmental Impact Assessment screening report has also been carried out. Submissions or observations are open to the public until 5pm on the 28th of August.
