Plans for the extension of a family-owned quarry in north Longford can now proceed after an appeal to An Bord Pleanala was deemed invalid.
It's understood an appeal to the national planning authority by residents living around the Rhyne Rock operation in Drumlish was received
after the closing date for submissions.
Eamon Brady, Michael Sheerin and John Hanlon lodged an appeal to An Bord Pleanala on behalf of residents of Lettergeeragh, Lettergullion,
Ballinamuck and Brocklagh on July 30th.
Earlier in July, Longford County Council granted conditional permission for Rhyne Rock to continue quarrying operations for another 30 years including blasting, crushing, screening and washing material and also to extend their area by a further 13 hectares.
The new development would include the relocation of a concrete batching plant and building a new block yard facility and settlement lagoon.
The family-owned quarry is a significant employer in the north Longford area and has been operating for around 20 years.
