Strokestown House is a Palladian style Georgian house and the site of the National Famine Museum of Ireland.

Planning permission has been approved for significant works at Strokestown House in Roscommon.

The Irish Heritage Trust received the permission to extend the existing woodland walk trail with a board walk, to create outdoor learning zones and the construction of a holistic eco-centre pavilion building.

The application also includes the installation of a 4th class housing exhibit, construction of new car parking facilitates, footpaths and extension to bus parking on site.

The plans were approved by Roscommon County Council with eight conditions attached.

These include a ruling that detailed Archaeological Monitoring will take place before and during the works on site in the interest of preserving the cultural importance of the area.
