It's claimed rural schools in the Shannonside region are struggling to survive because people can't get planning permission for one-off housing.
Drumboylan National School in north Roscommon has only 11 pupils - and that's set to drop down to 8 in September.
The school has been open for the past 75 years and has three teachers.
