The Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council has confirmed that planning permission for a permanent solution to the Lough Funshinagh saga is still a ways off.
Speaking over the weekend, Shane Tiernan stated that there are a number of steps and issues to be navigated before planning is submitted to An Board Pleanála.
The Council head says that while there are many issues to iron out, he's been assured that the Government is fully committed to the cause.
Following years of court cases, delays and false starts, works on the interim solution were completed in March.
A temporary pumping system is now in operation at the flood-affected turlough in south Roscommon with excess water now being pumped from the turlough to the Cross River in the townland of Carrick.
