Fianna Fáil Councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice was today elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Roscommon Municipal District. He was proposed and seconded by party colleagues, Cllrs Larry Brennan and Marty McDermott respectively. The Castlerea man served as the county council Cathaoirleach last year. He will be paid €6,000 for the role and will chair six meetings a year. Cllr Fitzmaurice said he was delighted to be given the position and paid tribute to outgoing Cathaoirleach Larry Brennan:
He says one of his aims for the next year will be the development of an urban forest in Castlerea. The project would include integrated walkways on council-owned land on the outskirts of the town.
