Over a quarter of local children miss crucial PHN check

26 per cent of children locally missed the crucial 9-12-month Public Health Nurse check between 2020 and 2024.

HSE figures show that of the 87,111 children across CHO 1, 2 and 8 which includes counties Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon, 22,475 eligible children did not get the check.

Sligo-Leitrim, however, failed to return data in November and December 2021.

Typically, during a 9-12-month check, Public Health Nurses check a baby's physical, social and behavioural development.
