Over 900 knives have been seized in the Shannonside and surrounding region over the past 10 years. 338 were recovered by gardai in Sligo-Leitrim between 2015 and 2024 - including 39 last year.
Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan says 583 were seized in Longford, Roscommon and Mayo in the same timeframe, with 52 last year. Longford councillor Seamus Butler says it's not a major problem in his area:
