Over 850 children wait for CAMHS appointment locally

Camhs provides assessment and treatment for young people aged under 18 who are experiencing mental health difficulties, such as depression, anxiety or dealing with an eating disorder.

There are currently over 850 children waiting for a CAMHS appointment in the this region.

The figures were revealed in a response to a parliamentary question from Sinn Féin TD Sorca Clarke.

Nationally, there are 4,748 children on waiting lists for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

Among them, there are 284 waiting for more than 12 months for access to vital supports.
