Over 500 people in the Shannonside region were given penalty points for holding a mobile phone while driving last year.
More than 3,000 drivers got points for speeding, according to figures from the Department of Transport.
You can legally talk on your phone while driving using a hands-free kit, but not while holding the handset.
For doing so, you face an automatic fine of €120 and three penalty points.
A total of 535 drivers in the Shannonside region got points for the offences last year - 88 in Leitrim, 182 in Longford and 265 in Roscommon.
These figures are, however, slightly down from 2024.
A further 3,092 local drivers got penalty points for speeding last year - 771 in Leitrim, 920 in Longford, and 1,401 in Roscommon.
These are also all down a little on 2024.
You normally get three points for speeding.
If you get 12 in three years, you get banned from driving.
