There are currently over 3,300 BEEP cattle herds in the Shannonside Region according to new figures presented in the Dáil.
The Beef Environmental Efficiency Programme aims to increase economic and environmental efficiency in the suckler herd through better data collection on cattle.
Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue presented the figures following a parliamentary question from local Sinn Fein TD Claire Kerrane
The payment is available to farmers who've a live herd number, have submitted a basic payment scheme application and are willing to complete the programme's mandatory actions.
Roscommon has the highest number of herds in the region taking part in the scheme at 1,555, 771 of which are made up of 15 pairs or less of suckler cows and calves.
That's followed by Leitrim, where there are 1,017 BEEP herds, the majority of which consist of 15 pairs or less.
There are also 737 herds in Longford taking part in Beef Environmental Efficiency Programme.
