Domestic tourists and those traveling for work spent just over 2,000 nights in guest accommodation in the Shannonside Region last year. Figures from the CSO also show the average stay in Longford, Roscommon, Leitrim and Cavan was two and a half days.
The figures show that over the 12 months of 2024, the region had 858 domestic visitors with figures for Roscommon and Longford amalgamated, and Leitrim and Cavan statistics also appearing together. Longford and Roscommon had more visitors from around Ireland according to the CSO survey with 440 trips recorded.
Those trips resulted in 1,073 over night stays, with the average stay lasting 2.4 days. In Leitrim and Cavan, domestic tourism accounted for 418 trips that used 945 bed nights at local accommodation.
CSO figures for 2023 show a major increase in domestic tourism in Roscommon and Longford with decrease in bed nights used in Leitrim and Cavan. Dublin, Cork and Kerry saw the highest amount of people visiting the counties from within Ireland.
