Over 120 new council homes are planned for Co Roscommon over the next couple of years. They'll be based in various locations across the county, including Boyle, Ballaghaderreen and Monksland. Roscommon County Council's latest management report shows there are plans for 123 extra social housing units. They are at various stages of development. They include 16 homes in Curlew View in Boyle, which are expected to be finished by the end of this year.
There are several new 'turnkey' homes also - eight in Athleague are ready to be occupied, and eight in Monksland and nine in Strokestown are almost ready. By far the biggest development is 51 homes in Sli an Choiste in Monksland, on which work will start later this year. 14 derelict homes in Shannon Valley in Ballaghaderreen will also be brought back into use, with tender for their design advertised earlier this year. Smaller developments are in the pipeline in Cortober, Elphin, Lisanamult in Roscommon town, and Castlerea.
