Over 1,100 domestic abuse incidents have been reported to the gardai in the Shannonside region this year. There have been 802 in Longford, Roscommon and Mayo, along with 335 in Sligo-Leitrim.
But Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan is warning this isn't the full picture of domestic violence - and gardai will provide more comprehensive data soon. Elphin councillor Valerie Byrne says the new figures are shocking:
