Over one million Home Help Hours have been provided to older people in Roscommon since the beginning of 2019.
HSE Home Support Services aim to support older people to remain in their own homes for as long as possible and to support informal carers.
Between Home Help hours and Home Care Packages, 1,008,049 hours have been delivered in Roscommon to the elderly from 2019 to September 2021.
According to information presented at a recent meeting of the Western Region Health Forum, the HSE has cited difficulties in recruiting care staff as one reason for not meeting the demand for the service.
HSE representatives confirmed that the Home Support Department within the health service is currently working with private service providers on a series of recruitment programmes.
