An Oireachtas committee has heard a Longford post office will close down unless government funding is increased. The Irish Postmasters Union is calling for a 50% increase in state funding, from €10m a year to €15m.
It says 40% of post offices could close if that doesn't happen. Fine Gael TD Micheál Carrigy is the postmaster of Ballinalee post office - he says funding is urgently needed for the network:
