Number of early Garda resignations highest in five years

The number of gardai quitting the force early has increased by a quarter in the past five years.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee says there were 77 in 2018 - rising to 95 last year.

There have been almost 400 premature resignations since 2018, with 86 so far this year. Aontu leader Peadar Tóibín says many gardai quit because of poor working conditions.
