No private housing development has been built in Longford in 17 years, according to a local Fine Gael TD. Micheál Carrigy was speaking during the Oireachtas housing committee, which discussed the First Home Scheme.
It helps first-time buyers bridge the gap between their mortgage, deposit and the price of a newly built home. Deputy Carrigy says it's not an option for people in Longford:
