Roscommon County Council say no permission was granted to erect tricolours on approach roads to Roscommon town.
A number of listeners contacted Shannonside FM in recent days who have seen the tricolour hanging from flagpoles.
The matter has become a cultural flashpoint nationally in recent months.

Many anti-immigration activists in Dublin encouraged their erection, while opponents say they are weaponising the Tricolour as a tool of intimidation.
