The Department of Education has still not committed to a new school building for Carrick-on-Shannon - nine years after the application was made. Scoil Mhuire's pupil numbers have almost doubled in the past decade, to around 500. It's spread over two campuses, and some classes are held in prefabs and subdivided rooms. The issue was raised in the Seanad this week by Labour senator Nessa Cosgrove:
