Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O'Connor says the new national drugs strategy will feature a renewed focus on rural towns and villages.
She was speaking during a visit to Roscommon today where she met with local groups including the North West Regional Drugs Task Force.
In July, Roscommon coroner Brian O'Connor raised concern about the number of drugs and alcohol-related inquests coming before him.
The Minister of State with responsibility for Public Health, Well Being and the National Drugs Strategy says the new strategy will be unveiled in January.
