The Leitrim County Development Plan has officially been voted in by local councillors.
The vote took place at a special meeting of Leitrim County Council.
Following almost 100 weeks of work, the Leitrim County Development plan for 2023-2029 has been passed.
A report from the Chief Executive was brought before members yesterday with a number of recommendations and amendments included.
Some issues included use of lands opposite the Catholic Church in Carrigallen, and areas subject to flood risk in Keshcarrigan, with the council requesting the OPW to review the specific areas at risk of flooding.
After 2 hours of deliberation, council members voted to pass the plan, however Councillor Des Guckian voiced his opposition to the plan calling it the "final nail in the coffin" for the council as an independent entity.
Other members thanked the council for their work on the plan, with Councillor Enda Stenson commending the transparency of the process.
The new plan will come into effect next month.
