New bishop of Achonry appeals for more vocations to tackle shortage of clergy

Kevin Doran has taken over as Bishop of Achonry and is remaining as Bishop of Elphin, as the two dioceses unite.

The new Bishop of Achonry is appealing for more vocations to the priesthood to deal with the diocese's shortage of clergy.
There are only 28 priests serving the 23 parishes in Achonry - and only five of them are aged under 60.

Kevin Doran has taken over as Bishop of Achonry and is remaining as Bishop of Elphin, as the two dioceses unite.
He's urging the public to play a role in encouraging more people to become priests:

The Bishop says small churches may not have Mass every Sunday in the future, due to a lack of priests.
