Nearly 20,000 vehicles seized for no insurance last year

Chief Executive of the Bureau, David Fitzgerald, says it's now much easier for gardaí to catch uninsured driving.

Almost 40,000 vehicles have been seized for drivers not being insured in two years.

The Motor Insurance Bureau says gardaí held 19,600 of those in 2025.

Two years ago, it rolled out a new system to allow officers to check number plates.
