Gardaí have confirmed that the N55 has now reopened near Athlone following a fatal road traffic collision yesterday evening.
A motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to Mullingar Regional Hospital for a post-mortem exam.
The road remained close last night and this morning as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene, with a diversion in place on the N55 between Athlone and Ballymahon.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time - especially those with dashcam footage - to come forward.
