A number of major county Longford project was among those included in the National Development Plan.
The long-awaited N4 Mullingar-Longford upgrade is part of the €23.4 billion plan.
It is expected the upgrade will cost between €500 million and €1 billion and will now move through the statutory and appraisal stages, with construction commencing by 2030.

The N4 Carrick-on-Shannon bypass is also included in the plan with construction set to commence in 2028.
