The RSA have urged motorists to get themselves winter ready as colder, wetter weather approaches.
There have been over 38,000 NCT's taken this year in the Shannonside region, with over half the tests taken resulting in fails
The Road Safety Authority is marking 25 years of the National Car Test by urging motorists to get winter ready.
With colder, wetter weather on the way, the RSA is reminding drivers that keeping vehicles roadworthy is vital for safety.
Since 2000, approximately 26 million full NCT tests have been carried out. Last year, the NCT completed 1.7million full NCT tests which is the highest in the services history.
So far this year, over 38,000 NCT's have taken place in the Shannonside region with over half of them resulting in failure
Around 21,700 tests came back as fails whereas only around 17,000 passed.
Carrick- On-Shannon test centre have recorded the highest number of dangerous fails with 1,195, Castlerea 1,057, and Longford 1,014
The RSA have noted that the most common reasons cars fail the NCT include worn tyres, faulty brake lines, seatbelt and exhaust system conditions as well as defective suspension.
Many of these issues can be prevented with regular servicing.
