The Local Improvement Scheme is an 'important partnership between the government and people living in rural Ireland.'
That's according to the Minister for Public Expenditure and Infrastructure, Jack Chambers, who was speaking at Áras an Chontae in Longford Town yesterday.
The minister met representatives in Longford to discuss a range of issues and projects, including a potential housing development in the county and an upgrade of the N4.
He also welcomed the additional €900,000 boost allocated to counties Leitrim and Longford for the upgrade of local roads and laneways.
Speaking in Longford, Minister Jack Chambers says the funding will help ensure connectivity across the region.
Roscommon was the only county in Ireland that did not receive any additional funding.
But Minister Jack Chambers says this may have been due to an assessment carried out on the expenditure of the money which had previously been allocated to the council.
