The Minister for Rural Regeneration has urged both Roscommon County Council and residents of Ballaghaderreen to meet in the middle over the ongoing public realm row. Local residents and business owners are angry at the €4.5 million plan, which would see 47 car-parking spaces removed from the town. Protests have been held on weekday mornings for the past number of weeks.
Roscommon County Council has offered to keep eight spaces however that has been dismissed by many in Ballaghaderreen. The works are in large part, funded by the Department of rural regeneration. Speaking in Leitrim yesterday Minister Dara Calleary has urged both sides to come to an agreement:
