Mental Heath Commission CEO praises Roscommon staff

The annual report of the Mental Health Commission has been published in recent days

The CEO of the Mental Health Commission says he believes people attending the psychiatry services at the unit in Roscommon hospital are getting a good service despite the physical conditions there.

John Farrelly was commenting today on the annual report of the Mental Health Commission which promotes and encourages good practice in the delivery of mental health services across the country.

While Mr Farrelly says the main aim is still to see far more of the services delivered in the community and in people's homes, the fact is that many services are still delivered at buildings that are far from ideal in terms of modern facilities.

The unit in Roscommon which is attached to the hospital is one of five around the country which reported overcrowding instances last year.

John Farrelly says despite the physical limitations he's been impressed by the staff and care plans in place there.
