A public meeting in Drumshanbo tonight will discuss planning approval for the construction of a battery energy storage system at Lough Allen. In November, Arigna LDES Limited were granted permission for the development in Arigna. The plans include the development of 56 battery containers, the construction of a new single storey IPP building, along with new internal access roads, drainage and security fencing.
However, the Lough Allen Conservation Association lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála. The group highlighted concerns with what it says is a lack of safeguards for the public, the effect the storage system may have on the environment and the visual amenity in the area.
