Conor McGregor's supporters have written to Longford County Council to encourage them to nominate the sportstar for the presidency.

The council is holding a special meeting next week to consider whether to back a candidate.

Candidates need to be backed by four local authorities to get on the ballot paper for the presidential election on October 24th - if they haven't been supported by 20 Oireachtas members.
