Long-serving councillor Mary Bohan is set to become the cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council next month.
The Drumkeerin woman will replace Paddy Farrell and will hold the role for one year.
Councillor Farrell has been the cathaoirleach of the local authority for the past year.
His last full meeting is taking place today.
As is custom, it’s taking place close to his home place – in Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway at Leitrim village.
He will wrap up as cathaoirleach at the council’s annual general meeting at the end of June.
As part of a coalition arrangement, Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and some independents control this council.
It’s been agreed privately Councillor Bohan will become the next cathaoirleach and will take over next month.
The Drumkeerin woman has been a councillor for the past 47 years, first elected in 1979.
