An Independent councillor says he has "no doubt" Maria Steen will get a presidential nomination from Leitrim County Council.
The local authority is meeting tomorrow to decide whether to back the conservative campaigner, after she was proposed by Independent Irene Guckian-Rabbitte and Fianna Fáil duo Mary Bohan and Justin Warnock on Wednesday.
The 18 councillors in Leitrim will decide whether to either back her, or nominate no one.
She needs four local authorities, or 20 Oireachtas members, to support her to get on the ballot paper.
