Maria Steen has received the backing of two Leitrim councillors to contest the presidential election.
Ms Steen was one of 13 candidates which addressed elected members earlier today.
There were four of no-shows while some chose to deliver their presentation online.

Candidates were given five minutes to present their case followed by two questions allocated to Councillors.
Dromod-based Independent Cllr Irene Guckian Rabbitte and both Manorhamilton MD Cllr Mary Bohan of Fianna Fáil have confirmed their intentions to nominate Ms Steen.
Fianna Fáil Cllrs were previously encouraged to support the party's candidate, Jim Gavin.

Should other Cllrs wish to nominate a potential candidate, they have until 5pm this evening.
Following this, they will meet again next Monday (22nd) to consider the names put forward.

Nominations for the 2025 Presidential election close on September 24th with polling day set for October 24th.
