A man has been arrested in Longford as part of a major Garda operation targeting the illegal sale of cannabis-infused vape products and other drug-related items.
The searches were carried out under Operation Tara, which targets organised criminal activity, and involved the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, Customs Revenue officers and regional Garda drug units, including officers from Longford.
Searches took place on the 2nd and 8th of July at five business premises and two homes in Longford, Castlebar, Drogheda and Carlow.
During the operation, Gardaí seized substantial quantities of cannabis-infused jellies, cannabis oil-infused vape products and so-called 'reefer' cigarettes.
The drugs have an estimated street value of more than two million euro.
Two men, both in their thirties, were arrested in Longford and Mayo under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.
One of the men has since been released without charge, while Gardaí say a file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The seized substances are being sent to Forensic Science Ireland for examination, and Gardaí say investigations into the operation remain ongoing.
